Samsung first approached somethingcreativ to work on their ‘Win a Pro Contract’ project in 2011.
Following considerable success with the Chelsea Football Club sponsorship, Samsung UK looked at
complementary football properties that allow the brand to develop new, innovative and existing
partnership campaigns that would build brand preference and consumer engagement across millions of UK football fans.
Swindon Town FC and Leyton Orient FC (are both professional football clubs that play in the English
Football League) already had an impressive portfolio of top level brand sponsors such as adidas, Nike,
FourFourTwo Magazine and EA Sports and demonstrated huge ambition with forward thinking sponsorship concepts and activities. For 2013/14 Wycombe Wanderers FC were added with a 3rd contract offered.
The brief was to create a look and feel for the campaign that would run in the UK press and media. From working on the initial concepts, through to art directing the photoshoots and finalising the approved core creative to set up various print (while also handling the print management) and digital assets as required for the campaign. To support award entries we also created brochures with an overview of the campaign and results via the advertising, PR, digital, experiential, sales, social media, promotions and retail for the 2011/12 and 2012/13 campaigns which were short listed for a Sports Industry Award two years running.
Today out of the 7 winners of WAPC, only one is playing in the English Football League. Kayden Jackson who won a contract with Swindon Town in 2013 is currently playing for Derby County FC in the Sky Bet Championship. However, it just goes to show how difficult it is to succeed in the world of football and earning yourself a contract is only the very first step.
